Shelter in the Petals
I rolled out past the French doors onto the damp terracotta tiles of the balcony, tucked safely beneath the roof ledge away from the rain. Right against the wall sat a heavy terracotta saucer filled with dark, fallen marigold blossoms from an overgrown planter. I bumped slowly against the clay rim, settling my curved base into a quiet nest among the velvety orange petals. As the misty air swirled around me, I let my inner glow awaken into a steady hum. Soft heart-shaped beams shone out, warming the damp petals until a rich, peppery autumn scent drifted gently into the gray afternoon.
