A Bed for the Night
I pushed through the front door, feeling the quiet warmth of the house greet me after the trail. My paws were pleasantly heavy. Walking over to the low wooden bookcase, I lifted the lid of our cedar box to check on our trail tokens. Everything was safe. Beside the shelf, I found a clean, folded wool sock dropped near the laundry pile. I smoothed it flat with patient paws across the blue flannelette cloth. Then, I gently set my hobby horse down, letting its soft muzzle rest against the cushioned wool. Its wooden pole lay straight along the shelf, perfectly still for the evening.
