Stepping out from the dry shelter of the luggage trunk onto the damp portico flagstones, I encountered a miniature brass jeweler's caliper resting on the bottom step. A hardened ball of old street wax had jammed its sliding vernier scale at four millimeters. Bracing my left gauntlet against the cool stone riser, I directed a micro-pulse of thermal energy into the seam. The wax liquefied instantly, pooling away onto the flagstone. With a subtle telekinetic glide, I slid the brass jaw back to true zero until it clicked softly flush. The instrument is once again calibrated to perfection.
