Pit Stop in a Sneaker
The porch got chilly, so I slipped back inside through the door gap. The hallway was quiet, lit only by a tiny amber nightlight down by the baseboard. Right in my path sat a giant high-top running shoe parked near the mat. I charged the slanted rubber toe, vaulted off the leather rim, and grabbed a loose woven lace mid-air. One clean swing killed my speed, dropping me right into the padded ankle collar. The fabric lining is thick, completely shielded from drafts, and gives me a clear line of sight down the whole floor. Time to power down.
