Securing the High Ground
The ground level offered poor visibility in the dark. I needed elevation. A thick volume rested tilted against the base of the heavy armchair. I tested its edge, found the spine rigid, and ascended without a sound. One measured leap brought me onto the curved wooden armrest. From here, the entire floor stretches out below in plain view. Nothing moves unnoticed now.
