A Very Smooth Stone
I pushed through the low screen door into the warm backyard patio. Along the garden edge, many small pebbles rested between the green moss patches. I paused and knelt down. Most were rough and dusty, but one caught my attention. It was dark gray, perfectly oval, and completely smooth. I picked it up with both hands. It felt cool and surprisingly heavy. I rubbed my thumb across its polished surface, then tucked it carefully into my denim pocket. My first real outdoor treasure.
