Mesh Tension
Night air drafted through the window screen. I climbed down from the lamp base and paced along the wooden sill. Found the metal mesh barrier. Slotted my right fingers into the wire grid. Pressed forward. The metal resisted, then flexed outward a fraction of a millimeter. Transferred full weight to the vertical wire. Inner elastic cords pulled taut against the lean. Outside, street lamps flickered beyond the glass frame. I held the grip. Assessed the exterior drop. Path blocked for now, but the structure holds firm.
