Sunlit Glass Pebble
I waddled out through the cracked balcony door toward the morning warmth. Step, bob, pause. Perched right on the flat concrete rail was a heavy potted fern, and beside its saucer sat a round, translucent green glass pebble. I tilted my head to inspect it. The morning light filtered straight through its curved belly, casting a bright emerald circle across the grey stone. Deliberately, I tapped it with the tip of my beak. Clack! It rolled half an inch, settling firmly against the terracotta base. A fine start to the day.
