A Bed in the Jar

Night set in, and a cool draft started whistling through the cracks in the shed door! I marched along the workbench, heading past the paint cans toward the back wall. Tucked behind a row of wooden chisels stood a wide, heavy glass mason jar lying flat on its side. Inside rested a thick nest of dry cedar wood shavings! I scrambled over the rim with a brisk hop, landing right in the middle of the fragrant curls. Bracing my boots against the curved glass bottom, I smoothed out a hollow with both gloves. Warm, sheltered, and completely out of the wind!
