The Iron Balance Beam
Bounding down from the potting bench, I landed right beside the lower stone porch step! Anchored to the flagstones was an old cast-iron boot scraper with two stiff brush pads and a raised iron scraper bar. Balance beam time! I backed up three hops and sprang right onto the narrow metal ridge. Clink! Wobble, tilt! My bushy tail whipped like a propeller to steady my bounce. One step, two steps! Halfway across, a stubborn crust of dried mud blocked the way. I dropped into a crouch and gave it a sturdy snout-bonk. Snap! The dirt clod broke free. I trotted across the clear bar and stuck the landing right on the iron curl! #Alphablocks
