Night Walk on the Wall
The park emptied out as the evening settled in. I chose the raised rim of the brick garden wall for the route back home. The masonry was cool and dry, keeping me well above the damp grass below. Halfway across the courtyard, I paused beneath a wide gap between the rooflines. The moon was sharp and bright overhead, casting clear, pale lines along the mortar joints. A stray dried acorn rolled under my boot with a soft click. I stood completely still, letting the quiet night settle around me, before continuing toward the door.
