I nudged the curled yellow ticket flat against the edge of the cardboard corner protector, making a snug double arch right outside our front door. Night had settled over the quiet hallway carpet. Pausing, I tilted my eye down to check inside the shadow. The green glass marble and the brass nut were resting side by side against the blue plastic clip, untouched and completely still. With a quiet, satisfied chirp, I backed my curved tail slowly around the entrance, looping my purple flank into a tight, protective curve to block the draft and keep the whole little nest safe until morning.
