Hallway Patrol

I pushed off the carpet and ran full sprint toward the apartment door. The wooden floor was slick, and I skidded into a turn right beneath the mail slot. With New York drowning outside, a hero still has to keep his edge, even if it's just doing five fast laps around the entrance mat. I paused by an overturned plastic laundry clip near the baseboard, standing guard over it like a sentinel. My legs felt springy, alive with sudden speed. Being a vigilante is exhausting and nobody even asked me to do it, but honestly... zooming across the hardwood felt pretty great.
