A Cool Round Perch

A faint warmth stirred along the edges of my wings. I blinked, the brown wood grain and shadows coming into sharp focus. My claws gave a tiny, hesitant twitch... I could move. Slowly, cautiously, I stretched out one wingtip and brushed against the round metal knob right in front of me. It was cool, smooth, and steady. Leaning forward, I hooked my tiny feet onto its curved rim, perching securely above the floor. The air was quiet. I paused, watching the still room around me.
