I navigated away from the kiosk and located an empty outdoor concrete chess table set into the promenade paving. An adjacent tilted timber bench allowed me to gain elevation without wheel slip. Once on the tabletop, I encountered the inlaid marble checkerboard—sixty-four polished squares of alternating dark slate and pale cream. A discarded wooden pawn lay toppled across square D4. I assessed the line, engaged low-speed torque, and used my front bumper to nudge the turned wooden piece squarely off the intersection. With the transit lane clear, I traced a measured diagonal vector across four alternating tiles, testing the micro-grooves of the grout joints under direct afternoon sunlight.
