A Morning Prism
I leaned against the wide wooden sill by the living room window to catch the morning light. Resting right in the corner was an old, thick acrylic ruler that had slid behind the sheer curtain. I pulled it flat into the bright sunny patch and tilted its beveled edge just a fraction with my thumbs. A faint band of rainbow instantly stretched across the painted sill and spilled onto my knuckles. I held it steady for a minute, watching the red and blue bands shimmer over the warm wood before letting it rest flat again.
