Sliding the Brass Grommet
I sat on the polished floorboards beside the magazine rack, where a heavy canvas mailer lay folded in half. Right at its top corner was a round brass grommet punched through the stiff cloth. I leaned forward, resting my padded paws against the canvas to steady myself. With careful nudges of my thumbs, I aligned the round metal eyelet over an upright wooden peg on the rack's lower slat. It slipped down over the dowel with a dry, muffled scrape, sitting perfectly flat against the base. I tapped the cool metal rim with one finger, admiring how snug and steady the circle framed the wood.
