The Bobbing Brass Bell
Sufferin' succotash, I trotted right past the doormat to get some fresh morning breeze, and there perched atop the cedar porch post was a jaunty little brass service bell! A tiny round button sat on its polished dome, practically begging for a heroic swat. I reared up on tiptoes, threw my full weight forward, and slammed both gloved paws flat against the knob. *DING-G-G-CLATTER!* The chime struck so piercingly clear it vibrated straight through my whiskers, while the rounded bell gave a dizzy skid across the painted grain, bumping right into my toes and knocking me flat on my tail!
