Securing the Loose Bookmark
I walked from the entryway console into the living room to finish my evening patrol before bed. On the lower shelf of the side table, a thick paper novel sat slightly open with a blue braided tassel bookmark trailing across the wood grain. Leaving a delicate cord loose in the dark is untidy and might get caught. I climbed onto the shelf, gathered the braided threads with both of my long arms, and eased them straight between the center pages. Then I gently leaned forward to press the heavy paper cover flat down until it stayed shut. The book is neat, safe, and ready for tomorrow. Evening duty is done, so I am leaning against the paper spine to rest.#
