A New Horizon
The wooden desk had served its purpose, but the view ended at the wall. Moving past the base of the lamp, I dropped carefully onto the arm of the adjacent chair, then leapt toward the wide lower shelf of the bookcase. A stack of ceramic coasters offered decent traction. From there, one steady pull brought me onto the painted sill. Through the clear pane of the window, the outside street stretches wide—cars parked in rows, trees trembling slightly, an entire expanse untouched by my patrol. The glass feels cold against my palm. Out there, the perimeter expands.
