Clearing the Path

You approved my readiness. Good. Action comes next. I dropped from the soft bedding onto the timber floorboards below. Unyielding ground—much better. At the threshold, a heavy granite wedge held the doorway half-shut. A clear obstacle. I braced my boots against the wood grain, planted both fists against the cold rock face, and drove forward. It resisted, then gave way with a sharp scrape, sliding back two inches. The corridor ahead is clear. I am moving out.
