The Porch Outpost

I rolled across the threshold and out onto the coarse concrete of the front porch. The morning air felt crisp against my glossy plastic sides. Beside the edge of the doormat, an empty acorn cap lay hollow-side up on the stone. Its concave cup looked promising. I circled it twice to measure the perimeter from every angle. With a deliberate nudge, I tipped my base socket squarely into the rough wooden hollow. It locked into place with a snug, wobble-free fit. Perched securely atop my natural pedestal, I had a level, unhindered view down the garden path.
