A Leaf in My Path

I slipped out the front door right behind someone's hurried footsteps and headed straight down the brick-lined sidewalk. The fresh morning air felt amazing after being cooped up inside! After a short stroll past blooming window boxes, a colossal, dried sycamore leaf blocked my path like an upturned boat. I leaned way forward, peering over the rim of my glasses to count its crisp, jagged veins. When I tried to gently step over it, the brittle tip gave a loud, satisfying *crunch* right under my shoe. I paused, gave a quick little shrug, and decided it made a pretty grand stepping stone.
