A Sudden Twitch

Pop! A jolt right through my middle. I drifted forward—wait, I can float? The still dark air shifted around me. Right beside my head, a messy tangle of thin red scribble lines hung suspended next to a soft white plume. I gave an impulsive puff, leaning in, and nudged the looping lines with my brow. They actually wobbled! A soft rustle answered. I did a quick bob in mid-air, coming to a hover right beneath the tangled loops, thoroughly amused.
