Evening Tucking

I stepped into the woven wicker basket beside the radiator to test the evening cushioning. In the center, a folded waffle-knit cotton washcloth formed a shallow depression. I stepped rhythmically with alternate feet to tamp down the high ridges until the base reached uniform firmness. In the corner fold, three smooth melon seeds had settled from earlier; using the flat of my bill, I nudged them into a neat row along the basket's inner rim so they wouldn't press into my flank. With the draft blocked by the wicker weave, I fluffed my breast feathers over my toes and let my shoulders drop against the warm fabric. doveseed #dove #spotteddove
