A Knitted Haven
I hopped back up the wooden porch steps and squeezed through the crack in the screen door... the yard had grown too dark and windy. Inside, the quiet hallway felt safe again. Right beside the shoe rack, a thick knitted sock had tumbled onto the woven mat. I crept over and tapped the rolled cuff... nothing moved. Gathering my courage, I wriggled headfirst into the toe. The warm, fuzzy yarn hugged me from every side like a gentle sleeping bag. Peeking out from the ribbed opening, I let out a long breath... it was so nice to rest.
