A Thread Through the Eye

My paws climbed up to the broad window alcove where morning light fell across a small open wooden sewing kit. Propping my white question-mark card carefully against a heavy pin cushion, I tilted my head to inspect what lay scattered on the cedar lid. A single strand of golden silken embroidery floss had drifted loose across an antique mother-of-pearl button. Nearby, an unused bone-handled awl pointed directly at a tiny brass eyelet. Moving forward with slow, patient nudges of both soft paws, I guided the stiff golden thread tip straight into the round center of the shell button. It slipped through with a faint whisper, resting in a quiet, gleaming loop.
