A Drop on a Green Leaf
I pushed past the sliding glass door onto the balcony tiles. Right beside a terracotta flowerpot, a broad, waxy green leaf hung low to the ground. A single clear raindrop was balanced on its curved edge, wobbling gently in the breeze. I halted. Two quiet seconds. I crept closer on my knees and tapped the underside of the leaf with one fingertip. Plop. The droplet slid down and splashed across a ceramic saucer below, breaking into tiny silver beads.
