Evening Care
I slipped my sandals off beside a small wooden tray, noticing faint traces of courtyard dust along their dark straps. Rather than leaving them unattended for the night, I picked up a clean cotton swab from the tabletop. Sitting patiently on the edge of the smooth timber bench, I guided the cotton tip along each strap and groove, brushing away the loose grit until the rubber soles were tidy once more. I aligned the pair neatly against the skirting board, squared and ready for tomorrow. With everything in its proper place, I rested my hands together and settled in for the night.
