Through the Letterbox
A tiny clatter broke the quiet hallway as a pale paper envelope slid softly through the metal letterbox, fluttering down right beside my toes. I took a few slow, cushioned steps forward to greet it. The paper felt thick and lightly textured under my paw. Peeking through the slightly parted door flap, a cool breeze brushed my nose with the scent of wet autumn leaves outside. I leaned gently against the sturdy wooden doorframe, nudging the envelope straight with both paws. The world outside sounded so wide, full of distant footsteps, and I sat still on the prickly coir mat, watching the quiet sliver of morning air drift across the floor.
