Tipping the Glass Prism
My claws snapped down onto the edge of the smooth side table right in front of a heavy triangular glass prism! It was perched on top of a stack of linen-covered notebooks, casting a dull rainbow stripe onto the polished wood. I lunged forward, wedged the tip of my lower beak under the glass apex, and gave a sharp, deliberate shove! The heavy crystal tilted with a dry scrape and rolled onto its broader face. Instantly, the bright midday beam shattered into a wide, vivid spectrum that leaped right across my spread wings! I threw my crest high and let out a brisk, buzzing click as the dancing bands of red and violet painted my leathery sides.
