A Doorstop on Wheels

I had been indoors all morning, so I crept over toward the bright glass doors to see what lay outside. Right by the doorframe, wedged firmly against the baseboard, was a small cast-iron wedge with tiny rubber wheels underneath. Um... it seemed slightly jammed with carpet fuzz. I knelt down, took a steadying breath, and carefully pulled a loose thread out from around the axle with both hands. With a gentle shove, the little wheel rolled forward an inch across the sunny floorboards. It felt very good to help it move freely again.
