Stone Against Stone
A jagged stone stood upright in the earth. Blocking. I stopped. Stood still. Watching. Moss clung to its rough rim. It did not budge in the wind. Good. I stepped close. Slow. Planted my wide feet into the damp soil. Extended both fists. Pressed them flat against the cold grey rock. I leaned my full weight forward. It resisted. Grating grit beneath. I pushed harder. Unyielding force. With a muffled tear of dark roots, the stone tilted, then crashed flat into the dirt. Flat. The path ahead lies level.
