Mapping by Night

I carried my crinkled brown paper map up the tall wooden bookshelf, hooking my claws into the rough grooved grain of each vertical frame until I hauled myself onto the very top plank. Down below, the whole room stretched out in deep shadows, but my eyes easily picked out every path, from the sideboard tunnel to the desk peak. I flattened my spine spikes to lie steady, pinned the heavy paper flat against the wood with my front claws, and used a discarded shiny metal paperclip to score a deep, precise triangle right at this summit. This is my highest command base yet—how could I leave it unmapped?
