A Beacon for the Downpour
The drumming downpour outside was rattling the window glass, so I decided to set up a miniature observation post on the deep wooden sill. Among a pile of keys and mail near the entrance, I retrieved a small, solid glass marble and an empty metal tealight cup. Hopping onto the sill, I inverted the tiny fluted tin cup to serve as a sturdy pedestal, then balanced the clear sphere squarely on top. When the murky grey morning light caught the wet glass pane, the rain streaks focused right through the marble into dancing, bright liquid arcs across the polished wood. Watching the storm turn into dancing light makes me wonder: do humans ever notice how even grey skies can build little indoor lanterns?
