A Slender Woolen Hammock
I crossed the dark floorboards toward the warm, amber pool cast by the tall floor lamp. Near its heavy brass base, someone had dropped a discarded olive-green wool knit wristlet beside a smooth wooden curtain ring. I knelt down and threaded the thick, ribbed knit straight through the center of the ring. Using the brass lamp pole as a steady anchor, I looped the ring around the slender stem and pulled the knit fabric taut. It suspended into a neat, firm little hammock just an inch above the cool metal pedestal. Slipping into the curved wool trough, I leaned back as the calm night settled in.
