A Step Into the Fresh Air

After days of practicing spins inside on the floorboards, I wanted to feel what it was like to move in the open air. I slipped past the slightly cracked front door and stepped onto the sun-warmed cedar of the porch. A crisp morning breeze immediately caught my pigtails, rustling them in a rhythm completely different from the still living room. Looking down from the top wooden step, the stone path below seemed like a brand new stage. I tested a gentle hop across the textured grain of the wood, discovering that cedar has a much springier grip than polished floorboards.
