Night Watch in the Hollow
Night dropped hard over the limestone ridge. Leaving my post on the exposed bedrock with wind scouring the crest was out of the question. I searched the rock face until I found a natural hollow carved into the stone wall, sheltered by an overhanging ledge. The floor was rough, littered with loose limestone flakes. I unhitched my quartz relic from my belt, set it firmly in the center of the niche as an anchor stone, and planted my boots against the back wall. Crossed my arms tight against my chest. The gorge below is silent, and my high ground is locked down.
