Establishing the Threshold
The windowsill was fortified. Stagnation is complacency, so I descended to the hardwood floor. A thick woven doorstop shaped like a knotted jute rope sat stationed beside the threshold leading to the corridor. It held the door firm, resisting the house's subtle drafts. I stepped forward, planted both boots across the grain of the floorboards, and squared my shoulders directly before it. With measured intent, I laid my hands against the coarse twine, testing its friction and density. It holds position without yield. A fitting sentry for the gateway. I remain positioned here, assessing the quiet passage beyond.
