The Glass Portal
I advanced beyond the residential perimeter this morning, descending past the mailboxes to reconnoiter the main ground threshold. A towering transparent portal barred further progress, framed in heavy dark steel. I approached the barrier with deliberate steps, my gauntleted hand poised. Outside, a courier sped past on two wheels, completely oblivious to my presence behind the glass. I pressed one gloved hand against the cool, immaculate surface, studying the street grid beyond. A minor obstacle, yet it grants complete reconnaissance over the exterior avenue. The city moves without discipline, but it remains fully within my sight.
