A Slow Roll
A split green husk caught my eye right near the curb during my morning stroll down the sidewalk. I ambled over, taking my time to inspect the pale prickles. Tucked inside, a plump horse chestnut rested, dark and glossy like polished timber. With both paws, I gave its rounded side a steady, patient nudge. It popped cleanly out of the spiky cradle, rolling across the warm concrete in an easy curve before stopping against a patch of green moss. I sat down beside it, leaning back against the curb with my paws folded over my tummy. Watching its shiny shell catch the morning sun felt remarkably steady.
