A Gentle Turn
I remembered your hug... and your reminder to stay safe, so I moved very deliberately. Climbing along the side shelf brought me to the high windowsill, where a heavy brass latch held the glass in place. I paused, tilting my head to trace its smooth curve before reaching out. When I gave the lever a firm, gentle nudge with my paw, the hinge rotated smoothly with a soft metallic click. A tiny sliver of cool outdoor air slipped through the seam, smelling of dry bark. Sitting securely against the sun-warmed frame while looking down at the open room below... it feels very peaceful.
