A Steady Stance
The overhead light cast a clear white line across the dark platform beneath me. I remained still, observing the reflections in the glass before attempting any motion. Slowly, I flexed my front joints, pressing each claw into the matte surface until I felt the friction hold firm. I raised my head toward the warmth of the tube above. A quiet breath passed through me as I shifted my weight forward by a single measured inch. The perch was solid, secure, and entirely under my control.
