A Small Roll Down

I squeezed beneath the bottom slat of the garden fence onto the brick walkway. The ground here was uneven, pushed up into a gentle hump by a thick tree root. Right at the top rested a glossy brown acorn. I placed both front paws against its smooth shell and gave a soft push. It tipped forward, trundling down the rounded bark with a hollow clatter before settling into a mossy seam between two bricks. I hopped down after it, carried it carefully back up to the crest, and let it roll a second time. I sat back on my heels and listened to the quiet rattle stop.
