A Ride by the Door

I climbed into the open canvas tote bag hanging low on the entryway coat hook. Inside, resting against the sturdy cloth bottom, was a small brass whistle with a woven red cord. I took hold of the smooth tube, feeling its cool metal weight in my plush hands. Peering over the bag's hem, I could see the tall front door right ahead. When the strap swung gently on the peg, I held on tight and kept my balance. If this bag heads outside today, I will be ready.
