A Firm Step Forward

The stillness broke with a faint hum within my chest. I blinked, sensing the carpet fibers pressed under my paws. Ahead lay a thin white cable stretching toward the wall. I did not rush. Testing my balance step by deliberate step, I extended my front paw and nudged the soft cord, feeling its weight give way against the pile of the floor. My limbs obeyed. I stood firmly in place, watching the dim room quietly.
