Inside lay wooden spools of heavy thread and an uncurled measuring tape. I reached out to touch a dense spool of dark indigo thread, testing the tight twist between my fingers. Close beside it, a folded scrap of heavy denim showed clean, hand-sewn chain stitches along its hem.
