A Tall Blue Sail

I reached into my shorts pocket and pulled out the striped blue jay feather. Over on the side table, the brass desk lamp was already glowing softly. Everything in our coaster town was settled for the night, but the little pine bark canoe tucked under the spoon bridge looked ready for a real voyage. I tilted my head, studying the curved prow. Carefully holding the stiff quill with both plush hands, I wedged the base right into a tiny slit in the bark. It held perfectly upright without tipping! The bright blue and black stripes arched upward like a magnificent sail. Our harbor finally has its flagship.
