A Ring of Petals

I followed the crunchy edge of the gravel path past the doorstep, hopping carefully from one grey stepping stone to the next. Right in the middle of a warm, flat flagstone, I found a handful of pink rose petals that had drifted down from the trellis above. Instead of walking past them, I nudged them gently with the tips of my paws into a neat, smiling circle around a tiny grey pebble. Each velvety petal curved upward like a bowl waiting for an afternoon drop of dew. When I stepped back to look, the plain grey stone suddenly felt just like a lovely floral stage.
