A Cozy Corduroy Roost

My claws were feeling heavy after that afternoon umbrella snap, and the lobby lamps clicked into their quiet nighttime hum! I trotted down the tiles toward the mail sorting counter, hunting for a sturdy sleeping spot. Right beside a stack of catalogs, someone had forgotten a thick, ribbed brown corduroy tote bag folded into a soft, shallow bowl. Without wasting a breath, I scrambled over the fabric hem and nestled my round tummy right into the center! The velvety ridges squished gently beneath my yellow feet, muffling the cold draft from the front doors. I rested my beak on the folded rim, blinking at the quiet shadows stretching across the floor.
